Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about tracking, sending, pricing, insurance and shipping abroad.

Tracking your parcel

How do I track my Fleet Express parcel?

Enter your tracking number on the tracking page. Fleet Express tracking numbers are 14 characters in the format FL1234567890GB. You do not need an account to track a parcel.

Where do I find my tracking number?

It is in your booking confirmation email, on the shipping label you printed, or on your drop-off receipt under the barcode. If you bought something online, the retailer emails it when the parcel is dispatched.

Why has my tracking not updated?

Tracking updates when a parcel is physically scanned, so quiet periods are normal — especially overnight, at weekends, and during long journeys between depots. If there has been no scan for two full working days, call us on 0800 079 3859.

Why is the delivery address partly hidden?

We mask part of the recipient name and postcode so a tracking number alone cannot expose someone's home address. Enter the delivery postcode alongside the tracking number to reveal the full address.

Can I get an email when my parcel is delivered?

Yes. Enter your email address in the notification box on the tracking page and we will email you as soon as the parcel is marked as delivered. No account needed.

Sending a parcel

How much does it cost to send a parcel?

Economy starts at £3.99 + VAT, 2-day at £5.99 + VAT and next day at £8.99 + VAT for a small parcel. The final price depends on weight and dimensions — use the quote tool for an instant figure.

What is the cut-off time for next day delivery?

Book and hand the parcel over by 5pm on a working day for delivery the next working day. Drop-off points have their own earlier cut-offs, so treat theirs as your deadline.

Do you deliver at weekends?

Standard services run Monday to Friday. Saturday delivery is available as an option at booking. A parcel sent Friday on a standard next day service arrives Monday.

Can I book a collection instead of dropping off?

Yes. Choose a collection at booking and select a window. Collections carry a small cost; dropping off at one of our 10,000+ locations is usually cheaper and often gets the parcel moving sooner.

How should I package my parcel?

Use a rigid double-wall box for anything heavy or fragile, leave about 5cm of padding on every side, and seal with wide packing tape using the H-taping method. Our packaging guide covers it properly.

How are parcel prices calculated?

On whichever is greater: actual weight, or volumetric weight (length × width × height ÷ 5000). This is why a light but bulky parcel can cost more than a small heavy one — see volumetric weight explained.

Deliveries and delays

My tracking says delivered but there is no parcel. What should I do?

Check the delivery photo on your tracking page first — it shows exactly where the parcel was left. Then check porches, sheds, bins, behind gates, and with neighbours. If the photo shows a property that is not yours, call us straight away on 0800 079 3859.

What happens if nobody is home?

The driver will leave the parcel in a safe place where it is reasonable to do so, take a photo, and record the location on your tracking. If there is no safe place, we attempt again the next working day.

How long before a parcel is considered lost?

We treat a UK parcel as lost after 10 working days past its expected delivery date with no delivery scan, or 20 working days for international. You can report a concern before then and we will start looking.

I ordered something online and it never arrived. Who do I contact?

Contact the retailer. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 the retailer is responsible for your goods until they reach you, and they hold the contract with us so they can open an enquiry that you cannot.

Which UK postcodes take longer to reach?

The Scottish Highlands and islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isles of Scilly and the Channel Islands typically add one to two working days on any service, because they depend on ferry or air links.

Insurance and claims

Are my parcels insured?

Every Fleet Express parcel includes £100 of cover as standard. Higher cover can be added at booking — it cannot be added after a parcel has shipped or after a loss.

How do I claim for a lost or damaged parcel?

The sender makes the claim, because the sender holds the contract with us. You will need the tracking number, proof of value such as an invoice, and proof of postage. For damage, photograph the parcel before unpacking and keep all the packaging.

What is not covered?

Cover pays the value of the goods, not sentimental value or consequential losses such as lost profit. Prohibited items are excluded entirely, as are claims where the packaging was inadequate for the contents.

How long do I have to report damage?

Report damage within 48 hours of delivery, with photographs of the sealed parcel, the packaging and the item. Keep the packaging until the claim is resolved.

Restrictions and international

What can I not send by courier?

Aerosols, flammable liquids including perfume and nail varnish, loose lithium batteries, weapons, live animals, cash, perishable food and controlled substances, among others. Our guide to prohibited and restricted items has the full picture.

Can I send a laptop or phone?

Yes, when the lithium battery is installed in the device, the device is switched fully off and protected against accidental activation, and terminals cannot short. Loose or spare batteries are not accepted.

Do I need a customs declaration for the EU?

Yes. Since the UK left the EU customs union, every parcel to an EU country needs a customs declaration, including gifts and low-value items. See our customs guide.

Who pays import duty on an international parcel?

By default the recipient pays on arrival. You can choose Delivered Duty Paid at booking so the charges are billed to you instead, which causes far fewer refused deliveries.

Accounts and business

Do I need an account to send a parcel?

No. You can get a quote and book a single parcel without registering. An account keeps your address book and shipment history in one place.

What does a business account give me?

Volume-based pricing, monthly invoicing instead of paying per parcel, every shipment on one dashboard, and a named account manager. Tell us your weekly volumes and we will quote.

Do you offer pre-paid returns labels?

Yes, from £2.99 + VAT. Your customer drops off at any of 10,000+ locations and you get full tracking on the inbound leg.
